11 Bit Studios, a video games development team founded by former CD Projekt and Metropolis Software employees will invest $21 million for seven new games. Three titles will be first-party games, the rest will be published by the company.
11 Bit Studios confirmed that Project 8, Eleanor and Dolly are the codenames of their IPs, games that will count with an investment of $15.1 million. The Polish developer is known for their award-winning game, Anomaly: Warzone Earth, a real-time strategy reversed tower defense title from 2010. According to 11 Bit Studios, the goal of the company is to create games suitable for both hardcore and casual gamers.
More recently, the studio produced Frostpunk, a city-building, survival game launched for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in October 2019. Since its launch, the game has sold relatively well reaching 1.4 million players.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the commitment of the 11 Bit Studio management to such a large investment for a small studio, is the result of a strong financial performance, mainly thanks to Frostpunk and Children of Morta, a game published by the company.
In the quarter ended March 31, 2020, 11 Bit Studios earned PLN 30.5 million (€6.8 million) in revenue, more than double the amount earned in the same quarter last year. It also earned PLN 14.5 million (€3.2 million) in net profit, up more than 200%.
About 11 Bit Studios:
It all started in 2009, when a bunch of veterans of polish gaming industry joined their forces and founded 11 bit studios. They gathered few talented people and got to work. After a year our first child was born – Anomaly Warzone Earth hit the stores. Quickly it became a huge success, with great sales and number of industry awards, including Apple Design Award.
It was a proof that we were on the right track and in the next few years we repeated the success with Anomaly 2, Anomaly Korea and few other games. But you know what they say – the more you have, the more you want so in 2012 we decided it was time for something bigger.
This brings us to the place where we are today. This War of Mine is still selling really well, being one of the most successful indie titles of the last decade. Our next big game, Frostpunk, turned out to be an even bigger commercial success, earning great reviews across industry and mainstream media alike. Teaming up with Digital Sun Games ended up in bringing Moonlighter to PCs and consoles, and both Frostpunk and Moonlighter reached the #1 top-selling spot on Steam.
