4A Games & Del Rey Books Announce – ARKTIKA.1

4A Games, the studio behind the award-winning Metro series, and Del Rey Books – an imprint of Random House and one of the world’s foremost publishers of science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction – announced today a collaborative partnership behind the storyline for 4A Games’ upcoming first-person shooter for Oculus Touch, ARKTIKA.1, as well as an official eBook novella. The companion eBook, ARKTIKA.1: My Name is Viktoria, and many of the narrative elements behind the game were penned by New York Times bestselling author Christie Golden – known for several Star Trek, Star Wars, StarCraft, and World of Warcraft novels – along with accompanying editorial oversight from both 4A Games and Del Rey Books.

About ARKTIKA.1
Nearly a century in the future – in the aftermath of a silent apocalypse – Earth has entered a new ice age. Only the equatorial regions remain habitable, yet pockets of humanity still manage to survive in small numbers all over the planet. These regions of civilization sit on resource-rich, highly desirable territories to the north and south. As a mercenary hired by Citadel Security, you must protect one of the last colonies in the wastelands of old Russia from violent raiders, marauders, and horrifying creatures.

ARKTIKA.1 is being built on the acclaimed 4A Engine and delivers a post-apocalyptic experience unlike any other on Oculus Touch. With breathtaking detail and superior shooting mechanics, the game is on a fast course to redefine the scope and graphical fidelity of VR first-person shooters.

Check out the Trailer:

Arktika.1 aims to be a AAA polished VR FPS that’s all about the guns. It was clear from our first time playing that the studio has spent as much time giving the guns their own character as some of the actual characters themselves. Not only do they look cool, but they’re a blast to shoot thanks to great audio, visual, and haptic design. Many of the weapons will be customizable and some have secondary fire functions, making them much more than a ‘point and destroy’ interface for VR.
