Google recently pulled back the curtain on their upcoming game streaming service Stadia providing plenty of enlightening details regarding price, release and more. There’s definitely some exciting features and details for the streaming service, but as with any network based system the usage of data may become a concern as numerous regions restricted by data caps could make Google Stadia an ugly approach to gaming.
It’s been revealed that Google Stadia will use up a whopping amount of data for players looking to use Stadia as their go-to source for gaming. If the player plans on utilizing the 4K feature, which isn’t exactly the norm right now in gaming, then you’ll eat up just over 15GB per hour. This means that if you’re playing through an epic RPG or any other game that lasts near 100 hours or more using Stadia, around the 65 hour mark you’ll hit 1TB of data.
For those with cap restrictions, this could mean dodging out on Stadia almost instantly. And if you’re looking for simply 1080p, then you won’t hit the 1TB mark until around 113 hours as the data rest at around 9GB for every hour for the lesser resolution solution.
Keep in mind, these numbers represent how much data will be used up if you do absolutely nothing else on the internet. Not many people, especially those considering Stadia, would likely only use up their data for game streaming as video streaming and web surfing can eat up data as well.
So if you’re considering signing up for Google Stadia but have a limited amount of data for every month, maybe consider making Stadia a back up gaming plan rather than a full-fledged gaming experience. At least, for now anyway.
