According to new reports, Nintendo Switch dominated in Japan by a large margin, 87% of Console sales in Japan were Switch and Switch Lite.
Speculation about Switch’s dated hardware, the launch of Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 got fans anxious over the idea of the need for a Switch Pro, however, the Switch is having its best year in Japan and the rest of the world as confirmed in several occasions by Nintendo.
Thanks to Mario Kart: Home Circuit, Pokémon Sword / Shield Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and constant updates to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo has been unstoppable, managing to sell more consoles to what analysts forecasted.
Here are the top 10 best-selling games in Japan in 2020:
As COVID-19 forced most of the countries around the world to isolate themselves at their homes, Nintendo Switch became a very interesting source of entertainment for new buyers, Nintendo informed investors that, as of March 31st, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 55.77 million units worldwide. 356.24 million software units have also been sold worldwide.
Over 6.85 million Nintendo Switch consoles were sold just in Japan the last year. The PS4 was the second-best selling-console with 543,000 units, the next-gen PlayStation 5 only managed to ship a disappointing 255,000 units.
The trend of disappointing next-gen sales are also reported around the world, Nintendo Switch outsold PS5 four to one, and Xbox Series X|S is way behind in sales. It’s important to mention that next-gen games are nowhere to be seen, with most new releases being cross-gen and not enough supply to meet demand caused Nintendo Switch to still dominate the console market.
