Stardew Valley for PS4 & X1 launches December 13, Wii U version cancelled for Switch
Good news farming enthusiasts, Farming Simulator is about to get some competition on Xbox One and PS4 with Stardew Valley. The Harvest Moon-like game will be coming to PS4 on Dec. 13 and Xbox One on Dec. 14.
Unfortunately for Nintendo fans, the news isn’t quite as exciting. In a post on the official Stardew Valley website, it was confirmed that the Wii U version of the game has been cancelled. There still will be a version coming, but development has shifted from the Wii U to the Switch.
“I spent over four years developing Stardew Valley, inspired by games that I loved as a child such as Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing,” he wrote. “Although the idea of a ‘farming RPG’ might have seemed odd at first, the games were very addictive and had a heartwarming charm that stuck with me. With Stardew Valley, my goal was to recreate that special feeling and bring it to modern platforms. Stardew Valley has been a great success on PC, and I am very excited to share it with many new people on Xbox One. I hope you’ll enjoy your time in the valley!”
Indeed, the game has proven to be extremely popular on PC, selling over 1 million copies in less than two months. Multiplayer support and consoles versions (for Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U) were confirmed not long after launch earlier this year. Release dates for those consoles haven’t been shared yet.”
