Doom is Getting 4K Patches for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro
Bethesda and developer ID Software announced that the long-awaited patch to add Xbox One X 4K enhancements to Doom is finally available now. And they also are updating the PlayStation 4 version tomorrow with support for the PlayStation 4 Pro.
Check out the update trailer of Doom, featuring some gameplay footage:
Bethesda announced way back at E3 2017 that Doom would be an “Xbox One X Enhanced” game, but never gave any release date of the patch. And the company has not previously announced plans to add PS4 Pro support to the game.
“When DOOM launched in 2016, id Software focused on mixing cutting-edge graphics with relentless, fast-paced gameplay for users on all platforms. Now id is pushing the game’s graphics even further with the release of a new 4K Update.
Every blast of the BFG, every demon glory kill and every chainsaw slice through a Mancubus can be experienced like never before on consoles. Whether you’re a new player or just eager to jump back into your Praetor Suit, you’re going to want to visit Hell to experience it for yourself.
Digital Foundry examined image quality and performance in Wolfenstein 2 across both consoles last November. The analysis found that the game tops out at 1440p resolution on PS4 Pro, but can (and often does) reach native 4K on Xbox One X. On both platforms, the game sometimes scales down the resolution — more often on Xbox than PlayStation — to keep performance in the range of 50-60 fps.
