March 3 2016 Nintendo Direct Recap
Greetings Nintendo Fans, today Nintendo of America unveiled plenty of good stuff on their Nintendo Direct, most of the content they showcased were trailers from games that were announced before, such as new trailers for Star Fox Zero, Metroid Prime Federation Force, Pokken Tournament and so on.
Now there are small surprises that even though they weren’t the big announcements people were hoping for, they are definitely worthy of mention such as:
Star Fox Guard
This was definetly unexpected; formerly know as Project Guard, this game will be bundled with Star Fox Zero, and the game centers around Slippy Toad and his uncle Grippy Toad who are tasked of defending an outpost by monitoring it with surveillance cameras. Players must defend the outpost against waves of robots and other enemies as well. The game also allows for the creation of custom levels, customizing the waves of robots, and post levels online.
Both Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard are scheduled to be released on April 22 2016, Star Fox Guard will be bundled with the phyiscal version of Star Fox Zero and it will be sold stand alone digitally in the eshop and as a part of a bundle as well.
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Finally, a new proper Paper Mario to grace the Wii U, even though this game was rumored for quite a while, it was finally made official during the Nintendo Direct. This game is set on Prism Island and Paper Mario has a new item called a Paint Hammer to splash colorfur paint – all over Prism Island in a quest to return life back to the color-drained world. This sounds quite a lot like Splatoon in terms of mechanics and it may have been intended that way, but still promises to be a fun game and the gamepad mechanics look awesome.
The game is set for release sometime in 2016, however no date has been announced so far
Lost Reavers
Now this is what the Wii U is certainly starving for, 4 player online co-op games, in truth, there really isn’t that many out there to be honest, one of the things that greatly disappointed me from Star Fox Zero is the lack of a 4 player online co-op and competitive multiplayer, however, Nintendo is also known for it’s backwards thinking so there is nothing to do there.
In any case, Lost Reavers is a free-to-play online co-op game where four players assume the roles of four characters – Sayuri, Dwayne, Victoria, and ShadowStalker – working cooperatively in missions to raid multi-roomed maps and recover treasure known as Relics. Players will be facing against waves of various undead monsters, including giant bosses, in order to clear rooms, solve various puzzles, and move Relics to a certain point.
The game will be releasing on April 28 2016 and it’s an Nintendo Eshop Exclusive title.
Monster Hunter Generations
This one will be great news for Monster Hunter addicts, known as Monster Hunter X in japan, Monster Hunter Generations will be gracing the 3DS this summer and it includes updated visuals, gameplay and a plethora of new features such as new Styles and Hunter Arts that enable the player further customization of their characters and play styles. Players can also mount monsters from mid-air using the Aerial style or make the most out of the Hunter Arts abilities with the Striker style.
Capcom Announced that the game would be released this summer, with an unspecified date as of yet.
Momentum for Wii U, Nintendo 3DS Keeps Going Through Winter, Spring and Beyond
In a new Nintendo Direct video, Nintendo revealed new games on the way for its Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems, as well as additional details about previously announced titles. From new games in the Kirby and Paper Mario franchises to a companion game for Star Fox Zero, this is one video that can’t be missed.
• Star Fox Zero: Fox McCloud returns in an action-packed new adventure. Multiple paths branch out to give players plenty of places to explore, and each route gives them a completely different experience, with each battle posing its own set of unique challenges. Players will notice their skills get better and better over time, as they become top-notch pilots. In two-player mode, one player can fly the Arwing while the other player aims and shoots. The game launches April 22. The packaged version comes with a Star Fox Guard game disc at a suggested retail price of $59.99 while the digital version of the game can be purchased by itself from Nintendo eShop for $49.99.
• Star Fox Guard: Players set up 12 cameras to find and defeat enemies who are attacking the mining site of Slippy Toad’s uncle, Grippy Toad. The game includes about 100 stages, but players can also create their own stages by editing the placement of enemies and uploading their levels online. The only way to get the physical version of Star Fox Guard is by purchasing the packaged version of Star Fox Zero. The game can also be purchased by itself from Nintendo eShop for $14.99. Customers that purchase the digital version of either Star Fox Zero or Star Fox Guard will receive a $4.99 Nintendo eShop discount toward the other game.
• Paper Mario: Color Splash: Prism Island is being drained of its color and it’s up to Paper Mario to stop it! Use Paper Mario’s paint hammer to splash paint on anything it hits and bring the color back to the island in this new action-adventure game. The game will launch later in 2016.
• Super Mario Maker: More than 6.2 million courses from players around the world are available for others to play, and now a free March 9 update will add a Super Expert mode to the 100-Mario Challenge. The update also provides level creators with even more tools:
– Shake a P Switch to turn it into a key. Shake a Door to turn it into a Key Door. Creators can make enemies hold keys, meaning players can’t advance without defeating mandatory bosses.
– Shake a Coin to turn it into a Pink Coin. Players must collect them all to make a key appear.
