If we don’t get a sequel for Splinter Cell series until the end of 2020, it would be a generation without having a new title in the franchise. However, even if we get something about Sam Fisher and his dangerous missions, it might not be the one that we are waiting for.
According to a report by The Information, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has signed a deal with Ubisoft to bring titles from Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell franchises to Oculus VR headsets. Based on the source, this signing follows Facebook’s policy on acquiring game studios and getting more AAA titles on Oculus. If the report turns out to be true, Ubisoft presumably has one VR title under-development for each franchises, including Splinter Cell, but it remains as a mystery whether Sam Fisher will be getting a real sequel next year or not.
Recently, in an interview with Game Industry, one of the responsible people at Facebook told that the company is looking forward to expand its game library on Oculus, though he didn’t mention any specific partnerships.
Ubisoft is currently working on a bunch of announced and unannounced games for the next year and beyond.
