Rumor: Upgraded PS4 is codenamed Neo, Specs Leaked
More leaks and rumors about an upgraded PS4 has surfaced; according to an article posted by a website called GiantBomb, the upcoming PS4.5 will be code-named NEO and it will feature a higher clockspeed processor, a ram with much higher bandwidth and an updated GPU. out of all of these upgrades, the GPU is the one that got the most significant upgrade of all of the aforementioned parts.
The details of the new specs that will be used for PlayStation 4 Neo are the following:
The specs were carefully selected to ensure better performance overall with upcoming PS4 games while at the same time having those games being compatible with the current PS4. Such games will apparently have a feature called “Neo Mode” which will enable games to use the upgraded specs of the PS4 NEO, improving visual fidelity, upscaled 4K resolution and much more stable frame rates. Even though games can be upscaled to 4K, they are not required to be developed natively in 4K.
Studios that made games that are already released also have the option of optimizing their released games to take advantage of the new hardware and release the feature via a patch, I would certainly love to see what a studio like From Software would do with Bloodborne using the specs of the upcoming PS4 Neo, only time will tell.
As always take all of this with a grain of salt, and wait until any official announcement sony might make at the upcoming E3.
“The NEO will not supplant the current PS4, but will exist alongside of it and use the same user environment. The PS4 and NEO will use the same PSN store, connect to the same online communities, and offer the same user experience, so expect to see the same cross media bar that you’re used to. Players will be able to retain all of the purchases they made on the PS4.
Sony seems committed to keeping the NEO and the original PS4 player bases connected. As such, there will be no NEO-only games, and Sony will not let developers separate NEO users from original PS4 players while playing on PSN.”
