In recent Stadia news, it was reported that, indie developers are not motivated by the offers of Google, less than ten games in the Stadia’s library are indie games, a trend that Google is trying to change. But what is perhaps the biggest news for Stadia subscribers is the appointment of Shannon Studstill, a well known veteran of the gaming industry.
Studstill leaves PlayStation after two decades of success at one of PlayStation’s studios, Santa Monica. She recently served as Vice President of product and development and Head of Santa Monica. She is the Executive Producer of the reboot of God of War reboot for PlayStation 4. Google’s offer to Studstill is the leading job as a Studio Director of the new studio at Playa Vista, California.
The new Playa Vista studio will produce exclusive games, the development team will be tasked to introduce new gameplay mechanics as well as produce creative and innovative ways to interact with players. The studio has some plans already, but Jade Raymond says that it’s still too early to talk about those new projects.
Stadia is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the industry, Xbox boss, Phil Spencer motivating message to the Xbox Team after Stadia’s announcement was leaked, Microsoft is taking Google seriously and has decided that consoles would not allow Microsoft to reach all players in the world, so Xbox is preparing for a future where streaming services are the way to play.
Today we saw a big tech competitor enter the gaming market, and frame the necessary ingredients for success as Content, Community and Cloud. There were no big surprises in their announcement although I was impressed by their leveraging of YouTube, the use of Google Assistant and the new WiFi controller.
But I want get back to us, there has been really good work to get us to the position where we are poised to compete for 2 billion gamers across the planet. Said Phil Spencer to the Xbox Team.
