Nintendo Switch Pro Specs Datamined: 4K, OLED, Bigger Battery

According to data-mined information revealed by SciresM, the allegedly Switch Pro is codenamed Aura, the hardware revision will output games at 4K Ultra HD,  feature an OLED screen, a new dock, and larger battery.

SciresM, a well-known dataminer affirms to have found the information deep inside Nintendo’s latest firmware for the Switch.

Disclaimer – This information has not been verified, therefore this is not factual.

The data miner is confident of affirming that the Japanese tech giant has been designing the hardware revision for 1.5 – 2 years. However, even if he found information that might suggest 4K, he is not 100 percent sure that the new console can actually output games at UHD.

The new hardware is codenamed Aula, it’s using a Mariko SoC. There’s a bunch of references to it in code (atmosphere supports the new display already in theory). Aula explicitly supports handheld mode. It is not docked only; that’s calcio, which seems like it’s for internal only/never releasing since Calcio has no gamecard slot and no battery.

The tablet itself definitely has an upgraded display, I don’t know if it’s 4K. Aula has firmware support some Realtek chip that advertises itself as a “4K UHD multimedia SoC”, too, hence my belief it’s 4K. That chip might be inside a new dock and not inside the tablet, though, there’s no way to tell from the firmware code yet.

Checked my previous discussions with hexkyz, the upgraded tablet display is an OLED screen. Probably not higher resolution on tablet itself, so I guess the 4k realtek chip is more likely to be new dock than I thought it was.

The data miner also affirms that the new Mariko SoC can allow engineers to optimize the performance, potentially creating a console with better battery life and cooling.

Yesterday, an allegedly official document from Nintendo indicates that next Monday, January 11, a Nintendo Direct live stream will reveal the next-gen Switch, a console that is scheduled to arrive on April 23, 2021.

The leaked document also affirmed that the system is 4K capable, and a list of games to be released this year was also leaked. The rumored Switch Pro will feature revised Joy controllers, 256 of storage. The console will be sold at 399 USD.

Nintendo has reportedly informed it’s third-party partners to start producing games on 4k, the Switch Pro is expected to use NVIDIA’s DLSS technique to upscale games to higher resolutions. Interestingly, Yoshitaka Murayama, a veteran in the videogames industry unintentionally affirmed that his latest project, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, will launch for a next-gen Switch in 2022.
