Crytek has announced that a new game in the Crysis franchise is currently in development. This news comes only a few months after all the existing Crysis titles have been ported to current-generation consoles, giving players who had yet the chance to play through what the franchise currently has to offer.
This will be the first game in the series since Crysis 3 was released back in 2013 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game received a mixed reception, which was in contrast to the positive reception of its predecessors, which should help explain why it has taken as long as it did for a fourth game to get greenlit.
In a press statement released by Crytek CEO Avni Yerli today, it was stated:
To everyone in our amazing Crysis community, and to all fans of the franchise all around the world: we have a special announcement to make, just for you. It’s something you have been asking us for a long time, so it’s now finally time to confirm – yes, the next Crysis game is happening! We are so pleased and excited to bring this news to you, and we really can’t wait to reveal more details about what lies ahead.
Yerli went on to tout Crytek’s history working with their community:
Crytek has a proud history of working with our community to develop the games you want to play. Crysis is incredibly important to so many people – it’s beloved by gamers everywhere, and some of those working in the industry today are doing so because of the original game – so we want to make sure the next installment in the franchise lives up to all of your expectations. Make sure to join our socials and get involved!
At the time of its release in 2007, Crysis was touted for being a technically heavy, yet extremely visually impressive game that played well. It will be interesting to see if the studio attempts to recapture that legacy in their next game.
