Alan Wake II Announced At VGA’s

Over the last few months, everybody’s favorite horror writer Alan Wake have had a decent amount to be happy about. After months of speculation, it was announced that Alan Wake Remastered, which saw the 2010 title get improved visuals and a broader release for all players to see why so many fans have fallen in love with the title over the years.

Remedy had previously purchased the rights to their universe from Microsoft, which made sense after playing their latest game Control which appeared to be setting up the return of Alan Wake from the darkness he had been trapped in for over a decade now. Finally, at long last, Alan Wake II was announced at the Video Game Award, which is hosted by Geoff Keighley.

The trailer opens similar to the first game in the series, with Alan stating that “We all come to a story with hope and expectations,” similar to the dissection of Horror fiction he offered players at the beginning of the first game. While this narrative plays over locations and scenery that should feel familiar, seeming to keep the North-Western vibe from the original.

Soon however we see a figure standing in the street who turns on a handheld light source as we close in. Of course, the light was a pivotal tool in Alan Wake’s arsenal. We get a look at Ilkka Villi, reprising the character model for the game, with him looking similarly disheveled to his brief appearance in Controlwith long hair and a beard.

After the trailer was shown Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy, gave a brief explanation for the game. He stated that Alan Wake II is intended as Remedy’s first take on the Survival Horror genre and that he was looking forward to showing more soon.

Alan Wake II was announced for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Seris X|S, and PC, and will be available in 2023.
