Albion Online: The New Black Market

The final major update before the official launch of Albion Online brings comprehensive changes and improvements to the game. One of the most interesting and unique features of the “Hector” update will be the Black Market. In the latest video, Robin Henkys, Game Director of Sandbox’s MMORPG, explains the mechanics of the system which now makes all PvE opponents drop items that were hand-crafted by players.

What is the Black Market?
The Black Market merchant is a new NPC who buys items off players and redistributes them through dubious channels to various factions, mobs and chests in the world of Albion, who then drop these items for the players as soon as they are defeated or found. The Black Market merchant can be found in Caerleon, the central city of the Royal Continent.

How does the Black Market buy items?
The Black Market is no ordinary merchant since there are no set prices and no infinite demand for items. Whenever a mob is killed, there’s a chance for a buy order to be generated for the Black Market. Once there is a certain number of active buy orders for a certain item, the Black Market will start increasing the price for the item. This means that everything on the Black Market is directly linked to the players’ actions in the open world.
If a killed mob is to drop a certain item, the system will search the supply on the Black Market. If the item is in stock, the mob will drop it and it will be removed again. If it’s not in stock, a buy order will be generated, resulting in an increase in price.

What is Albion Online?
Albion Online is a sandbox MMORPG from Sandbox Interactive, set in the medieval fantasy world of Albion. Whether playing a hardened fighter, a farmer, a merchant or a master craftsman, in the player-driven world every single weapon and every single building is created by the players. Thanks to a “you are what you wear” system free of typical class restrictions, a skilled archer can instantly become a powerful mage, and the players define their own role within the game world. PvE, PvP or the battle guild vs guild, every action in the game has a meaning … as well as consequences. PvP battles in the danger zones of the game world are a “winner takes all” affair. Albion Online is the first PC game to enable the exact same experience on tablets.
