Analogue – Bringing the Analogue Pocket in 2020

The Nintendo Game Boy actually celebrated its 30th birthday this month, the classic portable housed a number of classics, Pokemon, Super Mario World, ports of games like MegaMan, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and much more. With Nintendo releasing classic versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, it’s a shame Nintendo doesn’t seem to be celebrating the Game Boy like the rest of us. Thankfully though it sounds like Analogue is making their own version of the Game Boy called the Analogue Pocket and it looks incredible.

The first big feature is that the system plays Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games. Moreover, the system works with cartridge adapters for other systems too like the SEGA Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color and others. That isn’t all though, the Analogue Pocket comes with a 1600×1440 resolution which is proven to be 10 times better than the original Game Boy that released back in 1989.

There’s still more, the system will have a developer kit built-in for developers to make and port over games. On top of that, there’s an audio program allowing users to create chiptunes and music that can be exported. Moreover, Analogue is creating a dock for the system letting you output the Analogue Pocket to your TV like the Nintendo Switch. Other features include stereo speakers, headphone output, a rechargeable battery and more. The dock will work with USB wired controllers and have Bluetooth for wireless controllers.

The system looks almost exactly like the Game Boy and with the graphic and audio upgrades, this might be the closest to a classic Game Boy that we’re going to get. The Analogue Pocket will release some time in 2020 with a price point of $200. This might be a Day One buy for yours truly.

What do you think about the Analogue Pocket? Is it something you plan on getting? What games would you get for the Pocket? Let us know and make sure to follow Gaming Instincts on Facebook & Twitter.
