According to a recent Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier, the entire staff of Annapurna Interactive have all resigned this month. The report states this is a result of a dispute with company owner Megan Ellison to spin off the publisher into an independent entity. Annapurna Interactive President Nathan Gary and his team had been negotiating with Ellison, but when negotiations fell through Gary, other executives, and other staff members resigned.
“All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,’’ Gary and the group said in a joint statement. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.”
“Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition,” Ellison told Bloomberg in a statement. “We’re committed to not only our existing slate of games but also expanding our presence in the interactive space as we continue to look for opportunities to take a more integrated approach to linear and interactive storytelling across film and TV, gaming, and theater.”
A company spokesperson also informed Bloomberg that all existing games and projects will remain under Annapurna Interactive and new president Hector Sanchez has reportedly told developers that it will honor existing contracts and replace the newly resigned staff. Annapurna Interactive parent company Annapurna Pictures will still co-produce and co-finance Control 2, and develop and produce the Alan Wake and Control franchises for media including film and television.
