was announced today at the PlayStation State of Play event a few games in. It offered a colorful take on the multiplayer looter-shooter genre. It will allow for players to take on multiple biomes either solo or with up to three friends.
The plot of the game, or loose excuse to go through levels of enemies with guns blasting, revolves around an arcade trying to stave off being closed by a faceless mega-corporation. Gilly, the owner of this arcade attempts to create a mega game by connecting all the arcade machines together. Unfortunately, the mega-corporation then proceeds to hack the game and injects a virus. Now you and your friends need to go into the game to save it and the arcade.
The trailer opens up with some pretty old-school beats that conjured the image of Jet Set Radio, at least for me. Soon however we see the multicolored crew of no-nosed gamers doing what they do best, dodging and shooting waves of enemies. Later on we see enemies and chests drop large amounts of items that the characters help themselves to.
According to an official press release for the game:
This ever-evolving multiplayer shooter allows you to play solo or with up to three friends to explore multiple biomes, mini-games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemy types and boss levels. Arcadegeddon is a co-op multiplayer experience that provides a mix of PVE and PVP experiences that allows for all different speeds of play. As you continue to play you can take on additional challenges from the local “gangs” that hang out in Gilly’s Arcade. These will earn you much more than street cred. Speaking of street cred, earn your spot on the global leaderboards.
Arcadegeddon enters early access today on both PlayStation 5 and Epic Game Store for $19.99. It will have a full release later, being priced at $29.99.
