Assassin’s Creed has grown exponentially over the years. What started a small open-world game about assassinating a bunch of people has evolved into a gigantic, country-spanning, in-depth adventure. Recently we have heard that a new cross-gen game in the series was scrapped, being used as DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, with the plan for a next-gen game to release a few years down the line. While we still do not have a lot of information on that game, there is a new suggestion floating around about codename Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

According to a Bloomberg report, which I am inclined to believe due to Jason Schreier’s previous relationship with Ubisoft, the game is intended to far exceed the scope set forth by the previous entry. This is because the game of the game is to create a live service project similar to Grand Theft Auto 5 or Fortnite. To do this, two studios under Ubisoft with a long rivalry have been brought together, their Montreal and Quebec teams.
The report also claims that the game will not be limited by one setting, instead possibly jumping from timeline to timeline. This means that while we most likely can expect a large game at launch, that scope will grow even bigger post that. Many members of both teams have allegedly also left the project owing to this size and scope. As somebody that beat Valhalla to the 100 percent mark, I would argue even that game was too large so going even larger seems like a bad decision.
Live Service games, love them or hate them, do bring in decent amounts of money. Thanks to Grand Theft Auto, Rockstars’ publisher Take-Two saw its shares jump 42 percent since the start of last year. The industry is also ever-changing with live service models create additional streams for companies to return a profit.
While the company has confirmed nothing yet, much of this seems logical for the company moving forward. They have also confirmed the working codename Infinity which sounds like the subtitle to a game you plan to never let die. We will have to wait to get official word as the game is claimed to still be a few years away.
