If you were looking for an excuse to dust off your hidden blades and return to ancient Greece, it looks like Ubisoft is going to give you one. Today a patch was released for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that will up the framerate for the game to 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5 when playing the game through backwards compatibility.
This news was stated by the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account yesterday with the patch notes listing this update as being 1.6.0. There was very little provocation for this announcement but never the less serves as the perfect time for new players to try the game out, or old players to return for a new adventure.
While not putting Odyssey quite up to par with the most recent entry in the series Valhalla, this does see it offer very comparable quality in terms of visual upscaling and framerate. Despite being backwards compatible with all three systems since launch its performance had remained unaffected by the increased hardware till now.
It is always great to see games get some love even when a company has very little in the way of obligation to do so. They easily could have simply allowed the game to stand as it was (which was not bad in its own right) but instead they give a great game a quality of life update that keeps it relevant. Odyessy also happens to be one of the best experiences that the series has had to offer.
Keep in my that while it should play at a higher quality, this is through the backwards compatibility on the systems and now a next-gen version of the game. This means features such as haptic feedback or adaptive triggers will not be present in your playthrough.
