Leynos is actually one of the earliest games in the Assault Suits series, with the more famous Valken (or Cybernator) being another entry. Originally released back on the Sega Genesis it came Westward under the title of Target Earth.
The games themselves are interesting side-scrolling shoot-em-ups with emphasis on more realistic restrictions for the mecha, or assault suits, that you pilot. In Leynos, this manifests in terms of customization and using the correct load-out for each scenario. The paper-thin armor also results in a classically tense approach to balancing, as each mistake is often your last.
A physical release of the PlayStation 4 version will include a deluxe double-sided poster featuring artwork from the Japanese release as well as original art from the classic 16-bit release, which is also known as Target Earth.
Check out the Trailer:
“As Earth reels from the impact of a fourth world war and dwindling resources, an uneasy truce between nations sees mankind reach for the stars. Colonies are settled, resources are mined, and the future starts looking a little brighter. But just as peace finally seems possible, an unknown enemy emerges from the deepest region of space to threaten the very existence of humanity. Only one thing can stop them – It’s time to deploy the Assault Suit Squadron! Gamers will blast through the opposing enemy forces with devastating weapons like machine guns, rocket launchers, and laser beams while discovering the hidden truth behind the invaders.”
