Larian Studios announced during today’s Stadia Connect that Baldur’s Gate III will be releasing on PC and Google Stadia in close collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast. The game is based off the current D&D mechanics and spells and is the official new chapter in the long-awaited series.
According to the press release, “Baldur’s Gate III will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat.”
The game is aimed to be Larian Studios’ biggest production ever and will be playable together with friends or as a single-player adventure.
They also released the official trailer during Google’s Stadia Connect and teases some new information regarding the story to the game. It “shows the return of a malevolent presence to Baldur’s Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms. Alone you may resist, but together you can overcome. Gather your party.”
Creative Director at Larian Studios, Swen Vincke say that, “Baldur’s gate means so much to so many people. It’s a great responsibility but I think we’re ready for it… We’re all about creating reactive, symmetric worlds that respect player agency and having a chance to apply our team’s skillset in a universe as rich as Dungeons & Dragons is a lot of fun.”
He continues to say that the studios is working closely with Wizards in order to bring the highest amount of immersion in the realm of Faerun which will more than likely bring players the best story that Larian and Wizards of the Coast will offer.
There are no announcements on when the game will be released, but it is said to be one of the first wave of games to come out alongside the Stadia’s launch in November 2019 so it may come out then.
