After several suggestions this morning that Battlefield 2042 would get pushed back from its currently slated release date of October 22, 2021. After much speculation EA and Dice have released a statement confirming it will indeed be delayed, though not into 2022 like one person had previously suggested.
Instead, the new release date will be November 19th, 2021 which is a little under a month later. While this is no doubt upsetting to fans looking forward to taking part in large-scale future battles, this is the turn of events is pretty on par with this year which has seen several high-profile games delayed for multiple reasons, most noticeably the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic.
In an official press release from the company DICE Studio GM Oskar Gabrielson stated:
Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams. Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.
There are still plans for future betas and tests in the lead-up to the game’s new release date. The statement goes on to address them saying “Updates on the Open Beta will be coming later this month.” Assumably, with a delay such as this, the company is confident that Battlefield 2042 is close to being finished.
Battlefield 2042 will be available on November 19, 2021, for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation4, PlayStation5, and PC via Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
