, the studio best known for games such as Diablo, World of WarCraft, and Overwatch has announced that they are currently developing a new “brand-new survival game for PC and console,” that is not based on any of the universes they have crafted so far. This news was announced on Tuesday, through recruitment posting the company had posted through their website.
Blizzard described this new project in that posting, stating:
Blizzard is embarking on our next quest. We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console. A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.
This news was all accompanied by two pieces of artwork showcasing the game, labeling it as the “Unannounced Survival Game” which feels a little outdated at this point. One of the artwork pieces showcases an ax-wielding ranger-like character dressed in bonemail, starring at a mirror that hangs on the opposite wall in the dilapidated ruins she is. The other shows two modern-day characters stumbling onto a fantasy world through a forest clearing, showcasing a floating castle in the distance.
Currently, this unnamed game is hiring for several roles across Art, Design, and engineering. Unfortunately not much else is known about the game, with no title, planned release window, or consoles given. Blizzard is set to be acquired by Microsoft in 2023 as part of the Activision Blizzard deal, leaving its planned consoles as a looming question. That being said, based on the posting the project seems relatively far in development.
Following the news of this Blizzard Entertainment head, Mike Ybarra said on Twitter, “I’ve played many hours of this project with the team and I’m incredibly excited about the team’s vision and the brand-new world it presents for players to immerse themselves in together.”
