Bloober Team Dismisses potential ‘Silent Hill’ Leak

Konami and Bloober team recently announced a strategic partnership between the two. While no projects were officially announced as part of this, earlier statements made by Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno have lead many to suspect that this was eventually going to lead to a new Silent Hill game. Of course, in a year where the conspiracy theories about Silent Hill never stop, people have searched far and wide for some proof of this.

This eventually leads gamers to an EU funding website where many believe that not just the concept, but the plot of an upcoming Bloober Team lead Silent Hill was outlined. As it turns out, this was not actually the case. In an interview with IGN, a spokesperson for the studio claimed that the projects fans had found were abandoned projects that had been passed over for other IPs.

The projects were found to be in development at some point at Bloober under codenames. Only the game codenamed H2O has been released, revealed to be Layers of Fear 2. The other two projects are codenamed, Black and Dum Spiro. Black has been claimed to be set in a medieval Europe beset by aliens, while Dum Spiro is claimed to be set in a World War 2 ghetto. Since nothing has been fully seen of these games, naturally the theory is that one is Silent Hill, being kept under wraps. In fairness, this would not be the first time a World War 2 fake plot was used to hide a project.

In said interview with IGN Bloober Team CMO Tomasz Gawlikowski explained:

Online speculations based on outdated or incomplete information can often lead to strange theories among gamers, so we appreciate you asking us directly,

He explained that H2O did indeed go on to become Layers of Fear 2 before adding:

We have also applied for two other projects, codenamed respectively Dum Spiro and Black. After numerous iterations of Dum Spiro, we’ve concluded we can’t at the moment deliver it in a form that is appropriately sensitive to the topic and commercially viable at the same time. In short, Dum Spiro is no longer in active development at the moment.

In the case of the other project Black, he stated:

“Similarly, the initial idea for Black has also been shelved, and while we’re still developing a game under this codename, it’s now a much different project than what you could read on the web in the past few days.”

Gawlikowski did not go into whether or not the studio was working on a Silent Hill, which is understandable at this time. However, he did confirm that these projects were shelved so that the team was free to work on larger projects, which they currently have in the works. He also stated about these projects:

“At Bloober Team we have two active internal projects, one in the production phase and one in the pre-production phase. Both are going to be bigger in scope than The Medium, however, neither of them is based on themes or premises that have been circulating online in the last days.”

Most likely, the game in pre-production is the fruition of the Konami partnership, though whether that means Silent Hill or a new horror IP altogether remains to be seen.
