Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night creator Koji “Iga” Igarashi has announced that the Kickstarter-backed project has been delayed into 2018.
The gothic, exploration-focused action platformer was supported by 64,867 backers that pledged $5,545,991 toward the project. Having initially targeted a March 2017 release, the news hasn’t come as a particular surprise to backers who have wished the team well in response.
Igarashi has explained that they are hiring a new development team to assist the main production, but a larger question looms around the fact that the project is still destined for Wii U. With Nintendo NX scheduled to launch in March 2017, that could see Bloodstained remembered as the last release for the console’s predecessor.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will release on Wii U in 2018.

“Koji Igarashi: “The last thing I want to do is keep our backers waiting, but after receiving such incredible support, I feel responsible for delivering the best product I possibly can. Again, I offer my sincerest apologies.”
All of us on the campaign and development sides of the team are looking forward to playing the finished game as soon as we can, but as IGA says, we also want this game to be “done right the first time.”
We’ll continue to keep you updated on the development process every step of the way. (In fact, the next regularly scheduled update, featuring some songs and commentary from Michiru Yamane, is just about ready to go. And as IGA mentioned, you can expect more news about the development process as soon as it’s available.)”
