From one month ago till now, we’ve seen a lot of teases and heard many rumors on Borderlands 3 and possibilities of its reveal, which finally turned out to be true at PAX East 2019, with Gearbox releasing a full announcement trailer. While it seems this announcement will wrap up the rumors and speculation, with the further leaks coming from Twitter, we did know that it was just beginning of a new era for rumors upon Borderlands 3. After release date and Epic Games Store exclusivity, which leaked ahead of official announcement, now it seems the game will feature cross-platform play between PC and Xbox One, which is yet to be confirmed.
According to game’s Microsoft Store profile, Borderlands 3 will support “Cross-platform co-op” which clearly means players with different platforms will be able to play with each other. While Sony has always been a little strict on cross-play, it’s possible that at least Gearbox’s next hit supports this capability between two Microsoft platforms of Windows and Xbox One. On the other hand, Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, has recently talked about the studio’s intention to support cross-play in games. “myself and the team at Gearbox have a very keen interest in cross-platform play,” He said. “We believe multi-platform support is a pre-requisite and Epic’s leadership with cross platform support is helpful to our interests there.”
Based on what Pitchford said and regarding the tag on Microsoft Store page, it’s safe to say Borderlands 3 will support cross-play at launch, but it remains a mystery that which platforms are going to get this feature in between. PC and Xbox One? sure but what about PS4 and Xbox One? or at least PC and PS4?
