Borderlands 4 Teased by Randy Pitchford

The head of Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford has denied the rumors that the studio is working as assisting another developer, the executive reveals that the next  “big one” is being produced at the moment, potentially teasing Borderlands 4.

I am told of rumors that Gearbox is “assisting” or “co-developing” another Borderlands game (or a new spin-off game). These rumors are NOT accurate. Gearbox is lead dev of any future games in the Borderlands franchise (or any Borderlands adjacent games) with no co-development

We are definitely working on some amazing stuff that, I hope, will surprise and delight you. Plug: if anyone out there has Skills-To-Pay-Bills and wants to get in on some Borderlands action, we’re working on the big one 🙂

With an upcoming Borderlands movie and THQ Nordic now owning the studio looks like the perfect timing for Borderlands 4, but perhaps Pitchford did not tease anything related to the Borderlands franchise.

In a recent interview, Randy Pitchford affirmed that Gearbox Software is working on several new IP projects. The team wants to create a new game that has the impact that Borderlands had. Pitchford also affirmed that the partnership with the Embracer Group will allow the development team to take a bigger risk and produce a significantly more ambitious project.

“We have so many new IP concepts that are in our incubator, that are ready to explode. We could wait for the right publishing partner who’s willing to make a bet, rather than only take a risk on something they know Gearbox has already done before.

Those publishers that have taken risks on us for what we want to see next have always been rewarded. But for some reason, they can’t be comfortable with that kind of risk. Now we get to take that risk.”

Gearbox Software is an award-winning, development team of 550 designers is acclaimed for successful game franchises including Brothers in Arms and Borderlands, as well as acquired properties Duke Nukem and Homeworld. Located in Frisco, Texas the studio was founded in 1999 by game industry veterans, and its first release was Half-Life: Opposing Force.
