While many expected the Switch Pro to be announced this week, sadly it was not. A major reason people expected to see it was because they felt the latest in the Zelda franchise might be the showcase game for it. While that did not come to pass however The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild 2 was present and show regardless.
At the end of the Nintendo Direct event, Eiji Aonuma appeared briefly, apologizing for that over the last two years development on the newest title in the series he has not been able to show anything. After which the first core gameplay from the title was seen.
Though not a lot of the game was shown a release window of 2022 was offered, with him stating he was hoping they could meet that date.
The biggest change to the gameplay that was showcased throughout the trailer is that Link will take to the skies. The trailer opens with him falling from a high distance as floating areas appear from below the clouds. These floating areas contain paths, temples, ruins, and enemies Link will need to fight.
The game also showed off a few new abilities Link will have that tie into this form of traversal. One such ability had him land underneath a platform before going through a vortex-like hole to reach the top side of the floating areas.
How this change to the landscape came to pass is unclear. However, at the end of the trailer, we see a floating Hyrule Castle surrounded by an ominous red aura. This could mean that Ganon has returned, or this could be a new threat to the safety of Hyrule.
We will have to wait a little longer to find these answers out for ourselves.
