Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Using Photogrammetry for More Details in Objects

Call of Duty series is going to get ready for the next generation of console with soft reboot of Modern Warfare. For the first time after years, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is using a totally different engine in development process which allows Infinity Ward to get access to some cutting-edge technologies including Photogrammetry.

During the two and a half year that Modern Warfare has been under development, Infinity Ward has tried out Photogrammetry and fortunately it turned out to be a great fit for their new game. Using Photogrammetry, the team will be able to give more details to the objects as you get closer to them. Tiling technique and Photogrammetry have made it possible for development team to implement 64 pixels per inch, which makes the in-game objects more realistic.

Art director at Infinity Ward Joel Emslie explains:

You get really close to walls, and when you see things up close, [you’re seeing] this detailed tiling technique where you can really notice the detail. You’re probably familiar with 16 or 32 pixels per inch; this will be 64 pixels per inch; almost as real as it gets.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available this year on October 25 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game will feature a campaign mode, along with a story-driven co-op experience. In multiplayer part, new game from COD series will support cross-play between PC and Consoles. However, no Zombie mode or Season Pass will be available for this game.
