and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting set to release next Friday. The game has been swarmed in controversy since its official announcement at e3 earlier this summer. First for its pretty graphic nature and topics, second for the change-up in tempo and other changes when it came to multiplayer, third the removal (and then addition) of the mini-map and other factors. Infinity Ward has been trying to mitigate all the controversy through Reddit communication, tweets, and some mediums. One facet of the game that hadn’t been talked about up to this point is how the microtransaction economy is going to work.
In a surprise move, Infinity Ward has put out a large Press Release detailing the changes they plan on making to the economy. First off and they announced this previously, we will be getting crossplay across all platforms, Xbox, PlayStation 4 and PC. Second, there will be no Season Pass for users to pay for, it will be replaced with a Battle Pass that is strictly cosmetic. Thirdly, all base weapons for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can be earned through gameplay, no loot boxes, no RNG.
The Press Release continues on to explain that the Battle Pass won’t be implemented until after launch for two main reasons. They want to focus on making the base game the best it could be and they want to give players a full chance and opportunity to play the game for what it is.
In my humble opinion, this is a big-time move if they stick to their words and don’t pull a fast one on us. The last few Call of Duty games would release with little or no microtransactions only for the company to sneak them in later on after the reviews had come in. It sounds like things will be different this time around, will you be picking up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Was this economy enough to get you to buy in next week?
