Warzone Bans Over Half A Million Players

Call of Duty: Warzone

developer Raven Software announced that they had surpassed 500’000 players banned from the game.

On Friday, Raven’s Twitter account posted a tweet stating that the studio had “[b]anned over 30,000 malicious accounts across Call of Duty yesterday… bringing [the total] to over half a million accounts banned in #Warzone.” This comes a month after Warzone celebrated having attracted more than 100 million players from around the globe.

Online misconduct has plagued Call of Duty: Warzone since its launch in March 2020. Reports abound of players taking advantage of glitches to target others with ease, in addition to the usual cheating tactics like aimbots and wallhacking. Raven and Call of Duty publisher Activision were forced to ban upwards of 60’000 accounts this past February.

In a recent interview, Raven’s creative director Amos Hodge lamented the state of Call of Duty: Warzone, stating:

We make this content for the players and while you’re upset that it ruined your game, I’m upset that it’s ruining some of the best work that I’ve done in my life.

I made this content for players and I know that everyone around the team feels that way. We put our hearts into this content, we have 100 million players, it’s been out a year, this is a huge stage and some of the best work we’ve ever done, and to have cheaters come in and ruin the game bothers us more than anyone.

Raven Software has been in business since 1990, having developed classic shooters such as ShadowCaster, Heretic, and Soldier of Fortune. The studio was acquired by Activision in 1997, later being assigned to assist development on Call of Duty games in 2010.
