Capcom Ransomware Attack Compromised Personal Data of 16,415 Customers

Capcom has just released a public statement about November’s ransomware attack that leaked the release of several future projects, including the now verified demo for Monster Hunter Rise.

Capcom’s real problem does not lie in the sensitive information about future projects, but the data leaked from its customers, the full extent of the leak has been under investigation has now been confirmed:

. Personal Information	16,406 people　*cumulative total since the investigation began: 16,415 people Business partners, etc.: 3,248 people At least one of the following: name, address, phone number, email address, etc. Former employees and related parties: 9,164 people At least one of the following: name, email address, HR information, etc. Employees and related parties: 3,994 people At least one of the following: name, email address, HR information, etc.
ii. Other Information	Sales reports, financial information, game development documents, other information related to business partners

2. Potentially compromised data:

i. Personal Information	Applicants: approx. 58,000 people At least one of the following: name, address, phone number, email address, etc. Cumulative maximum number of potentially compromised data for customers, business partners and other external parties: 390,000 people Regarding the cumulative maximum number of potentially compromised data above: as part of its ongoing investigation, Capcom has determined that it currently does not see evidence for the possibility of data compromise for the approximate 18,000 items of personal information from North America (Capcom Store member information and esports operations website members) that the company included in its November 16, 2020 announcement. As such, these have been removed from this cumulative maximum number of potentially compromised data.

i. Personal Information

Applicants: approx. 58,000 people
At least one of the following: name, address, phone number, email address, etc.

Monster Hunter 6 (Q2 FY23)

BIOHAZARD APOCALYPSE (Q3 FY23)

MH NS G (QY F22)

SHIELD (Q3 FY21)

Capcom’s internal documents also reveal more details about Resident Evil Village, it’s online edition codenamed Dominion. The game is allegedly scheduled to launch in late April 2021 for PS4, PS5.

Capcom has also a strong lineup of games in development for PC, including a new shooter multiplayer game titled “Shield” designed for streamers. It’s also leaked that Monster Hunter Rise will be launching on PC. The company is also designing Resident Evil 4 VR, and Sony has allegedly paid USD 5 million for a VR/ timed DLC/demo exclusivity for Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8.
