While plenty of teases (2) from developers The Behemoth last week that hinted at a modern release of their coveted action-adventure title, Castle Crashers, it’s now been officially confirmed to receive a Remastered release by the developers.
Along with the release coming to both consoles this summer are also a few new additions arriving with the remastered variants. Here’s a rundown of everything new to expect when Castle Crashers lands on the Switch and PS4:
While providing some exciting news about Castle Crashers being modernized, The Behemoth also revealed some more information regarding a Castle Crashers sequel, as well as what they’re currently working on other than remastering one of their most beloved gems.
They revealed that the Switch version will take advantage of the Switch’s Online Service with 4-player co-op, as well as HD Rumble and Joy-Con support. For those PS4 players who can’t get enough color, the Dual Shock 4 controllers have been programmed to light up to match each color of the corresponding knight in Castle Crashers.
They also confirmed that a sequel to Castle Crashers has never been ruled out, but they’d merely rather work on new titles before deciding to return to an already fleshed-out series.
“Another thing to consider is that there would be no Castle Crashers 2 if we started out by making sequels. You’d have Alien Hominid 2 instead of Castle Crashers 1. Or, alternatively, there’d be no BattleBlock Theater if we made Castle Crasher 2.” – The Behemoth
An interesting outlook.

Finally, they’ve confirm that development is under way with their fifth title, aptly code-named “Game 5”. There’s currently no information on the upcoming title, but we can expect more details to release later this year.
Castle Crashers Remastered is set to release on the PS4 and Switch this summer. The game will also be playable for the first time on Switch and PS4 during their PAX East panel next week, March 28, 2019.
