Earlier this week, it was revealed by Polish news source Bankier that the studio behind the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 title was split into separate team each working on a different Cyberpunk title. The report claimed that, along with the Cyberpunk 2077 in-development title, a new multiplayer focused Cyberpunk title and presumed sequel to 2077 was also in the works by these separate teams.
While all of this was incredibly exciting news, it appears that these reports may have been a result of misunderstanding. CDPR reported to several media platforms, such as GameSpot, clarifying what the studio’s separate teams are actually working on. And it might be a bit less daunting than what was previously reported.
The studio is indeed split into teams – not three, but five teams. Two of those teams are working on the upcoming 2077 title, one team is covering the tech R&D, one is dedicated to The Witcher series spin-off card game Gwent and the fifth is working on an unannounced mobile title.
It’s good to see such a regarded studio with so many projects active, but does come as a little bit of a disappointment if fans were hoping to see more form the Cyberpunk world. While a sequel has returned to being up in the air for the new IP, it’s probably better that we wait to see how well-received Cyberpunk 2077 is until confirming more projects in the works.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 16, 2020.
