Cerny Vaguely Comments On PS5 Price, “Appealing to Gamers”

After yesterday’s surprising (and revealing) article from Wired giving us some enticing details on what Sony has cooking for the next genration of console hardware, some more intriguing – yet, incredibly vague – details have surfaced regarding the price. Many fans are skeptical considering the amount of horsepower under the hood of the presumed PS5, and Cerny (sort of) comforts many of those concerns.

Following the article, author Peter Rubin took to his Twitter page to relay some info that didn’t make it into the original post. After many eager fans began drooling at the mouth due to the next gen console specs, he felt it necessary to relay some price details that Cerny ever-so slightly hinted towards.

“I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.” – Mark Cerny

Rubin tried to get some more clarification on what he meant by this quote, but was quickly shut down by Cerny, expressing that he couldn’t speak any more on that particular topic.

With the tremendous specs released to the public, many of these new features and hardware components seems rather costly. However, given Sony’s previous experience of releasing a new console at an incredibly high asking price (the PS3 launched with two different versions at $499 and $599 in 2006 causing the console to stumble during the first years of availability), while finding great success when releasing the PS4 at a much more reasonable price of $399 in 2013 – we’re hoping Sony can manage a cost closer to its most recent predecessor.

Stay tuned for more on the latest next-gen coverage, as well as other news surrounding the industry.
