Infinity Ward plans to make some changes to multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, according to Joe Cecot—the co-design director of multiplayer.
Responding to fans on Twitter, Cecot indicated that players should be able to unlock an extra custom loadout slot beginning sometime in January 2020, though, an exact date was not specified.
Moreover, Cecot discussed the status of the Trophy System in the game, addressing a fan’s concern that it’s inefficient in that it doesn’t have the desired effect when it comes to protecting players from incoming explosive damage. Cecot replied, “The intent is to make [the Trophy System] a softer grenade counter.”
Whether adjustments will be made to the Trophy System in an update down the road is unclear.
In addition, Cecot explained that Infinity Ward has discussed implemented “variations of other modes using the cranked modifier. @DavidMickner coded it up this way for this reason.”
The game’s multiplayer recently went through a buggy period during the holiday season, with some players complaining that they were not earning XP and that they were unable to track challenge progress or unlock challenge rewards. Some gamers went so far as to suggest their ranks were being reset.
Furthermore, the game has received new special ops briefings, and Activision shed some light on the new multiplayer experience, Grind.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched on October 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is a reboot of 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The reboot received mixed reviews during its pre-release period due to its mature subject matter. However, it received positive reviews for its gameplay, story, multiplayer, and graphics when it officially launched.
