Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Concrete Genie developer studio PixelOpus will shut down on June 2. The decision was reportedly made after “a recent review process” at PlayStation Studios. In 2021, the studio announced it was developing an “exciting new PlayStation 5 title” in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation. However, the fate of the game is currently still unclear.
A statement from PlayStation regarding the closure via IGN:
“PlayStation Studios regularly evaluates its portfolio and the status of studio projects to ensure they meet the organization’s short and long-term strategic objectives. As part of a recent review process, it has been decided that PixelOpus will close on June 2.”

Concrete Genie includes two PlayStation VR modes* – VR Experience and VR Free Paint. In Experience, you’ll help a Genie discover a mysterious power through painting and see your art come to life from a new perspective. Or practice your new skills in Free Paint, where you’ll manipulate your paintbrush with two PlayStation Move to create beautiful, living landscapes.
