Counter-Strike 2

Counter-Strike 2 Might be Announced this Month

According to popular esports journalist Richard Lewis, Counter-Strike 2 will reportedly be announced soon and will enter beta this month. According to Lewis and his anonymous sources,  “a new version of Counter-Strike [is] on its way and that has been worked on for some time.” Additionally, the game is “about ready to go,” will reportedly run on the Source 2 engine, and has been the main priority at Valve over CSGO. Lastly, the new NVIDIA drivers, which support two new unknown apps, csgos2.exe and cs2.exe, support these claims, as they are reportedly related to Counter-Strike 2 and the upcoming beta.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity sources with a knowledge of the game’s development told us that indeed there was a new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on its way and that had been worked on for some time. The new version is almost certainly set to be released under the working title Counter-Strike 2 and the tentative release date for the beta is in this month of March with April 1st at the outside.

The sources explained that the creation of the game had been something of a priority for Valve’s team, which includes members that have overseen development of previous iterations in the Counter-Strike franchise. This, they said, should explain why some issues with CS:GO have been largely unattended to for some time. “The big priority is getting this out and then polishing it, fixing any bugs and bringing it up to the level people expect from CS.”

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive details via Valve:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) expands upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 19 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, weapons, and game modes, and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust2, etc.).

“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombardi at Valve. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”
