While Ubisoft has a plethora of successful IP continuing to release in the industry along with some new IP looking to take things to the next level, there’s a couple of fan favorite series that haven’t seen the light of day for quite some time. One of these series is the stealth action adventures of Sam Fisher, Splinter Cell. While the other is the parkour maneuvering, sword slashing action-adventure series, Prince of Persia.
While Splinter Cell seems almost an idea only dreams are made of, Prince of Persia might see itself with a more promising future. The series original creator Jordan Mechner revealed during GameLab in Barcelona that he was interested in not only replaying the older games in the series, but would like to make a brand-new title in the series.
Mechner announced during GameLab that he was working on releasing a book following the process of creating the original Prince of Persia title all the way back in 1989. When an audience member asked if he though the series should see a revival in the modern age, Mechner responded “I would love to replay those old games.”
This answer implies that a remaster of the older titles might be something that could potentially happen if Ubisoft – the owner of the IP – is interested. The same audience member then clarified his question by asking is Mechner would be interested in bringing the series back to life with a new chapter in the saga, with Mechner simply replying “Yes”.
So, while this may not be the announcement Prince of Persia fans have been hoping for regarding a new title in the series, it does seem like the cards on the table and it’s up to Ubisoft to move this project forward.
