The very first post-launch content for Cuphead has announced about a year ago and today we’ve been informed that the DLC is delayed to next year, however, we got the first teaser trailer for it.
Last time that we heard of Cuphead was when the game hit Nintendo Switch a few months ago. With nothing to be shown by MDHR at E3 2019, we were getting worried about the promised DLC of the game, but the studio shared the first trailer for The Delicious Last Course today along with a statement to explain the reason behind its delay until 2020. Here you can check out the brief teaser that provides a glimpse on new bosses, new playable characters and new locations.
According to the development team, the decision for pushing back the release date for Cuphead’s DLC wasn’t an easy one, but regarding their previous experience during the development process for the main title, this delay will make everything much better for The Delicious Last Course to be a content in the same quality of game itself. As you might know, generating the animations and new sets of locations and characters for Cuphead isn’t something like other titles, as they are mostly hand-crafted. Here is the full statement:
While we initially announced a 2019 release date for the ‘Delicious Last Course’ expansion, our highest priority is making sure this new adventure meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for. We want to be absolutely certain that this next adventure feels at home in the world of ‘Cuphead’ and is full of moments that surprise and delight players. Furthermore, the development of the original game taught us a great deal about the importance of making things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team.
With that in mind, we’re taking a page out of Chef Saltbaker’s book, and spending the necessary time to get the recipe just right – this means that we’ll be moving the release of ‘The Delicious Last Course’ to 2020. This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but we’re confident it’s one that will result in a higher quality experience that’s all the sweeter when it does arrive.
The upcoming DLC for Cuphead will be heading to Xbox One, Switch and PC on an unspecified date in 2020.
