Cyberpunk 2077 Developers Crunching To Avoid a Delay

According to the latest information from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, CD Projekt Red has established a mandatory crunch to avoid a potential delay of Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt Red is facing several bugs and glitches that could force the developer to delay the launch of the long-awaited RPG. However, CEO Adam Badowski has established a mandatory crunch to release the game on the scheduled date.

The anonymous informant also affirms that chief executive officer Marcin Iwinski lied when he affirmed Kotaku that the company would be avoiding mandatory crunch and was “committed” to not ask employees to work overtime. CD Projekt Red is allegedly forcing some employees to work late in nights and even weekends for over a year.

“Starting today, the entire (development) studio is in overdrive,” Badowski wrote, elaborating that this meant “your typical amount of work and one day of the weekend.” The extra work would be paid, as required by Polish labor laws. Many other video game studios don’t pay for overtime.

“I take it upon myself to receive the full backlash for the decision,” he wrote. “I know this is in direct opposition to what we’ve said about crunch. It’s also in direct opposition to what I personally grew to believe a while back — that crunch should never be the answer. But we’ve extended all other possible means of navigating the situation.”

CD Projekt Red has delayed the game twice in 2020, it was rumored by Borys Niespielak, that the delay is due to “performance issues” on current-gen consoles. According to Niespielak, the studio establish a deadline for fixing these issues, if the development team fails to fix the bugs the game is inevitably delayed. This could explain the controversial, and unethical decision to crunch developers to fix a problem that is caused by bad managment.

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on November 19, For  Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.  Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will be able to run the game via backward compatibility according to Adam Kiciński.
