Cyberpunk 2077 Lead Gameplay Designer Leaves CD Projekt

Andrzej Zawadzki has announced his departure from CD Projekt Red where he served as the Lead Gameplay Designer for Cyberpunk 2077. The developer leaves the Polish studio after five years of service as a designer.

In a statement shared on social media, Andrezej Zawadzki does not reveal the reasons for his departure from the AAA studio but looks determined to continue working for the industry for another team.

“After almost 8 years, my time at CDPR has come to an end. It’s time for the new adventure. To every person I’ve met on the way – thank you 🙂 It was an honor and pleasure. See you around :)”

Zawadzki’s recent comments on Twitter include a request for the gaming community to stop harassing developers of BioWare after the disappointing decision to cancel the redesign of Anthem. Zawadski certainly had a similar experience working on CD Projekt following the unacceptable release of Cyberpunk 2077.

Zawadzki’s career at CD Projekt RED started as a QA tester for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its DLC Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. According to his LinkedIn profile, the executives at the Polish studio offered him a job of Junior Gameplay Designer in 2016 where he started working on Cyberpunk 2077.  Zawadzki took different roles including RPG Coordinator before becoming the game’s Senior Gameplay Designer in 2020.

As suggested by his statement on BioWare’s Anthem cancelation, the recent death threats to developers following Cyberpunk 2077 might have been one of the reasons behind his departure from CD Projekt. He has condemned the actions of toxic fans as “absolutely unacceptable and just wrong,” adding “we are people, just like you.”

Zawadzki also pointing to follow developer Kyle Rwoler that he will be taking a “long holiday” without giving further explanations of his decision.

CD Projekt has been facing tough times in recent months. The company was hit by a cyberattack that leaked the source code of several games and is also facing a third-class suit from investors.
