CyberPunk 2077 Delayed Again, Now Launching On December 10

CD Projekt Red has delayed the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 the game will now launch on December 10, 2020.

The reason behind the delay is the challenges of the studio to ship the game for current-gen and next-gen system at the same time, the development team is now forced to test nine versions of the game before the launch of the game. The letter signed by Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski also points out that remote work certainly did not help.

Check the official statement here:

Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towrds almost being a next.gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make syre evertthing works well and evert version runs smoothly, We’re aware it might seem unrealistic when we say that 21 days can make any difference in sucha  massive and complex game, but they really do.

The developer also took the chance to explains that when they announced that the game “went gold” that meant that game “is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it”. However, the problem lies in the bugs and glitches that are currently in the game.

In late September, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier affirmed that CD Projekt RED had entered in a state of full crunch to meet the previous November 19 launch date.

An anonymous informant revealed to the journalist that chief executive officer Marcin Iwinski lied when he said to  Kotaku that CD Projekt RED would be avoiding mandatory crunch and was “committed” to not ask employees to work overtime. CD Projekt Red is allegedly forcing some employees to work late at nights and even weekends for over a year.

“Starting today, the entire (development) studio is in overdrive,” Badowski wrote, elaborating that this meant “your typical amount of work and one day of the weekend.” The extra work would be paid, as required by Polish labor laws. Many other video game studios don’t pay for overtime.

“I take it upon myself to receive the full backlash for the decision,” he wrote. “I know this is in direct opposition to what we’ve said about crunch. It’s also in direct opposition to what I personally grew to believe a while back — that crunch should never be the answer. But we’ve extended all other possible means of navigating the situation.”

CD Projekt Red has delayed the game twice in 2020, Borys Niespielak, affirmed that the delay is due to “performance issues” on current-gen consoles. According to Niespielak, the studio establishes a deadline for fixing these issues, if the development team fails to fix the bugs the game is inevitably delayed.
