Mamais explains that, CD PROJEKT Red established a team to work on Cyberpunk 2077 when The Witcher 3 was in development, the teams were working in parallel, but perhaps the sci-fi game needed more time as it’s a more ambitious project, the developer instead hasted the production of The Witcher 3.
“We cannibalised the second team to come back and work on Witcher 3 before putting everyone on this project” (Cyberpunk 2077).
OnMSFT asked John Mamais how will Cyberpunk 2077 will be different from The Witcher 3, the creator suggest that both games will feel “kind of similar” due to its RPG mechanics, but the main difference will be the combat elements. The producer also revealed that the game will allow players to change the the depth of field and reduce the head-bobbing effect to avoid motion sickness. Third person perspective will be only available while riding a vehicle.
The producer was also asked about non-fatal gameplay, he reveals that the main story can be experienced without killing, players would still have to knock them out. A non-lethal route has been confirmed, this would set players on a more difficult experience.
When OnMSFT asks about multiplayer mode the creator says that they’re “Totally focusing on single-player mode. Mamais revealed that Multiplayer mode is something that will be discussed in the next year. He suggest that DLC inspired by the the ones released for The Witcher 3 are planned, but he says he is not permitted to talk about post-launch content, but suggest it’s “very interesting”.
Nintendo Switch was also in the conversation, the creator won’t rule a Switch release but it’s something that isn’t planned at the moment.
It might be too heavy for it. But then, we did put Witcher 3 on it and we thought that would be too heavy too but somehow we pulled it off.
