‘s Jason Schreier received information of a possible rebellion in CD Projekt SA. The journalist explains that the staff was “frustrated and angry” during an internal video meeting with the management.
The reason behind the anger of the developers is that the directive of the studio announced unrealistic deadlines and it was relentless in the crunch in the months and years before the game’s launch.
Jason Schreier affirms that developers have “endured multiple periods of extensive overtime including mandatory six-day weeks to finish the game. The December 10 deadline was clearly unrealistic as it was first revealed by an anonymous insider when it suggested a necessary 2021 release to fix the performance issues and bugs of the game.
Is important to mention that CD Projekt Red’s said that they would avoid mandatory crunch, and later in a meeting with shareholders they affirmed that “Crunch it’s not that Bad”. CD Projekt Red had to delay Cyberpunk 2077 three times this year, the decision led to a significant depreciation in the studio’s market value.
Certainly, this is a sad story for all the parties involved. The hierarchy at CD Projekt destroyed the image of the company, most fans were completely disappointed, investors lost money, and developers who spend a significant part of their careers on the project are taking the blame for the lack of good direction in the company.
