Following the catastrophic launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, there are now reports of the Steam version of the game and they are not what CD Projekt Red nor its investors had anticipated.
According to reports from Githyp, the revolutionary Cyberpunk 2077 can’t live up to its hype and has lost around 79% of users on Steam, the game that once over a million concurrent users on Steam can only get an average of 225k players.
It’s unclear if the drop in user count is due to most players having ended the main campaign, the lack of replay value, or the current state of the game, but it’s fair to say that the numbers must be worrying for CD Projekt Red.
To add more context, GitHyp reveals that CD Projekt’s The Witcher 3, managed to retain over half of its player base a month after launch. 79 percent of The Witcher 3 players left only after three months after the game was released. This could statistically suggest that Cyberpunk 2077, being a far more ambitious project, will not be able to be more successful as the company’s previous project.
The nightmarish release, fill with leaks, glitches, alleged revolts, and even lawsuits has caused massive refunds and the removal of the game from the PlayStation Network.
Bloomberg‘s Jason Schreier revealed that the studio is on the verge of a rebellion, the journalist explains that the development team was noticeably “frustrated and angry” during an internal video meeting with the management in which they demanded answers from the management of CD Projekt Red.
Several reports reveal that the management at the polish studio often makes false promises to investors, fans, and the development team over Cyberpunk 2077. This has encouraged CD Projekt’ investors who have seen its shares nosediving in the last six months to take the company to court.
It’s now up to the court to decide whether if CD Projekt Red made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that:
