CD Projekt was hoping to release Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 to put behind some of the nagging issues of the game across consoles, however, the update will no longer release on schedule with the developer blaming a cyberattack for the delay.
CD Projekt announced the delay on a public statement shared on a Twitter thread:
While we dearly wanted to deliver Patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077 in the timespan we detailed previously, the recent cyber attack on the studio’s IT infrastructure and extensive scope of the update mean this, unfortunately, will not happen — we’ll need some additional time.
Our goal for Patch 1.2 goes beyond any of our previous updates. We’ve been working on numerous overall quality improvements and fixes, and we still have work to do to make sure that’s what you get. With that in mind, we’re now aiming for release in the second half of March
It’s not the news we enjoy sharing, but we want to make sure we launch this update properly. Stay tuned for more information as the time draws closer. Thank you for your continued patience and support.
CD Projekt was hit by a ransomware attack earlier this month, hackers got access to the servers of the Polish studio, following the incompliance of the hacker’s demands, the source code of Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent, and some “incriminating info” were sold on the deep web.
CD Projekt has reportedly used DMCA strikes as an attempt to control the damages made by the cyber attack, and today’s delay may confirm that the future of the company is at compromise.
Following the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the Polish studio has only shared bad news, the game released in an unacceptable state on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the company is now facing two-second class-action suits, the game was removed from the PlayStation Store and its market shares have fallen since August 2020.
