Cyberpunk 2077 Will Feature a New Style of Music

CD Projekt Red showed off a behind the scenes look at the music in their upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077, at the 2019 Game Awards as well as a live performance of Grimes’ song, 4ÆM, which will be featured in the game. People weren’t sure if CD Projekt Red would be showing off something for their highly anticipated game, so getting a deep dive look into the music that players will hear throughout the game was a nice surprise for fans.

Cyberpunk, which will be coming out April 16, 2020, is going to be set in a futuristic city where cybernetics are the norm. Because of this fact, finding current music that fits the style the creators are going for would be very difficult, so CD Projekt Red decided to hire artists to make music for the game. The way that the artists have gone about this is mashing up different genres to give it a “cyberpunk” feel.

The most obvious choice is to mash up punk rock with electronic music, but some artists mentioned other things they did to make music that would fit the game in the behind-the-scenes trailer. Gazella Twin Talks about how it’s rebellious, aggressive, but above all has an industrial feel. Deadly Hunta agrees with industrial feeling of the music and goes on to say how it sounds like there’s a revolution happening in it. Grimes adds how Night City and her music are both are “scary and pretty at the same time.”

Viewers got to experience that themselves when she sang 4ÆM on the Game Awards stage Thursday night. Her performance had a music video playing in the background that was in the style of Cyberpunk 2077. On top of that, Grimes will also be featured in the game, playing the character Lizzy Wizzy who is a huge pop star in the Cyberpunk universe.

Even though this new style of music might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it definitely seems like it will fit well into the world that CD Projekt red is creating. Fans are excited to be able to experience this music firsthand when the game comes out next year.
