Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Go Exclusive With Epic Games Store
Epic Games Store launched just a couple of months ago and it’s already creating havoc in the industry, they offer a better deal to developers in a move to dethrone Steam as the biggest digital distribution platform for gaming.
Cyberpunk Twitter‘s account replied to fan that told them “please don’t make this game a Epic Games Store Exclusive“. Cyberpunk’s response was “Yeaaaaaaaaah…. Pass on that.” Unofficial statement from an executive but good enough to assures Steam’s users that the game will be releasing on that platform.
Epic Games Store recently stole the distribution rights of Metro Exodus and Tom’s Clancy The Division 2 from Steam.
Valve’s distribution platform has been vocal about the situation:
The developer and publisher have assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam.
We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period. We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know.
Situation gone from bad to worst when Steam users where calling for a rioting the launch of Metro Exodus, this led to a developer at Deep Silver suggesting that if people don’t mind about downloading a small client(Epic Games version of Steam) then developer would skip future releases of their games on PC.
Obviously Steam is very angry as they even have retailed version of Metro Exodus ready for shipping. Fans could spot that boxed version of the game hides the Steam logo, behind a Epic Games Store, what a way to add salt to injury right?
