CD Project RED’s next title could be a revolutionary game in every aspect that you’ve ever heard of. From graphical point of view to realistic deep gameplay mechanics that give you a great amount of freedom in an open-world RPG game with a vast and dense city to live in. Cyberpunk 2077 is ambitious enough to introduce at least several new standards to it’s genre in both gameplay and story-telling. However, it seems we are getting teased by one of these interesting mechanics as the game’s quest designer has recently talked about that.
In an interview with Gamestar, Phillip Weber explained some details about quests and how you may fail during missions and doing objectives. According to Weber’s claim, in Cyberpunk 2077 you will be able to finish your quests in multiple ways and generally you are not going to encounter with any failure-declaring screens. In other words, for instance, when you are in middle of a quest and suddenly you decide to leave your tasks for a while to ride through streets or eat a sandwich, the game won’t punish you with a Gameover screen or warning you to get back to your mission.
So the game lets you do whatever you want without any limits, but at the same time, when you are doing staff out of mission, somebody could possibly get killed or something happens that affects the mission and story, with consequences for you. This is a great way of giving depth to gameplay by making it more realistic and believable. In fact, you will get punished by the game, but in a more meaningful way that gives birth to a new standard in gameplay mechanics.
Cyberpunk 2077 hasn’t got any exact release date yet, but according to CDPR, it’s show during E3 2019 will be the most important presence of the polish studio in any event so far.
